Importing your existing data

If you're moving from an existing system, you can import gift cards, customers, tags, and members directly into Glu using a CSV file.

📚 Note: If you're on Shopify, importing your existing data is handled automatically, you don't need to follow these steps.

Before you start

Make sure you have your data exported and ready in CSV format before getting started. If you're unsure how to export your data from your existing system, contact their support team for assistance.

⚠️ Important: If your data includes Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as names, email addresses, or physical addresses, make sure you handle and store it securely throughout this process. Once imported into Glu, delete any local copies you no longer need.

1 ᐧ Retrieve the data

Export your data from your existing system as a CSV file. This is a standard format supported by most platforms, if a direct export isn't available, contact your current provider's support team.

2 ᐧ Format the CSV

Before uploading, make sure your data is correctly formatted:

Data type

Format

Date and time

YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS

Long numbers

Check that Excel hasn't converted any numbers to exponential format

Also check for duplicates before uploading, when importing gift cards, each code should appear only once. When importing people, each email address should appear only once.

3 ᐧ Upload the CSV

  • To import gift cards, go to Gift cards then Import

  • To import people, go to People, click Actions, and select Import people

4 ᐧ Map your columns

Your CSV will be checked for validity. Map each column in your file to the relevant field in Glu before proceeding.

5 ᐧ Complete the import

Once mapped, confirm and wait for the data to be processed. Most imports complete within a minute or two, though larger files can take longer.
