Here's an example of the kind of report you can build using Glu's reporting tool.
Before you start
Make sure you have access to the Reports section in your Glu admin area.
1. Go to the balances report
In your Glu admin area, head to Gift cards in the left navigation, click Reports, and select Balances.
2. Review the data
The balances report shows each individual balance entry across the lifecycle of every gift card, giving you a detailed breakdown of how outstanding balances have changed over time.
3. Customise your view
Use the column settings to show only the data you need, and apply filters by event type or date range to narrow down the results.
4. Export the data
Click Export to download the filtered report as a CSV.
đ Note: The balance of a gift card does not always reflect the amount paid for it. A complimentary gift card, for example, costs nothing but still carries a balance to reflect the underlying service being provided.
Event types
Understanding the events in the report helps you interpret how each balance has changed.
Common events
Event | Cause |
Activation | The gift card was sold or created |
Redeemed | The gift card was used, either fully or partially |
Expired | The gift card expired and the outstanding balance was removed |
Refunded | A refund was issued for the gift card purchase |
Topup | Balance was added to the gift card via payment or another mechanism |
Rare events
Event | Cause |
Refund failed | A previous refund failed and the balance was returned |
Reactivation | An expired gift card was extended and the balance restored |
Chargeback | The customer initiated a chargeback and the outstanding balance was removed to prevent further use |
Reverse chargeback | The chargeback was won and the removed balance was returned |
Adjustment | A manual change to the balance was applied by a user |
đĄ Good to know: The balances report is the most granular view of gift card activity in Glu; if your finance team needs a full audit trail, this is the report to use.
